How it works

When it comes to unwanted hair, there are plenty of methods to deal. For most people, shaving, plucking, or ever waxing are go-to methods for unwanted hair. But what is there was a more permanent way to remove unwanted hair?

Laser hair removal offers a permanent solution to hair removal by ensuring that hair doesn’t grow back faster or thicker, which is a problem with some other methods. The procedure is simple, safe, and fast

Laser hair removal relies on light that is configured to a specific wavelength. That light is then shot into the hair follicle and absorbed by a pigment called melanin. One the melanin in the hair follicle absorbs light, it begins to heat, which singes the hair follicle, causing damage to the hair growth.

It is important to note that hair grows in cycles which means that several laser hair removal treatments are required in order to see lasting and noticeable results. The exact number of treatments and the required time in between treatments varies by individual.

Active Growth Phase

Anagen

Hair follicles are attached to blood supply and contain an abundance of melanin. The diode laser targets melanin in the hair follicle. Heat damages the hair follicle to inhibit or delay future growth.

The Procedure

You should expect to feel a mild sting, that is similar to being struck with a rubber band, followed by a cooling sensation to increase comfort.

Before the Procedure

You’ll want to prepare for your laser hair removal procedure in advance. The best time to start is going to be five weeks before your scheduled appointment. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll need:

  • Shave the treatment area: If you don’t feel comfortable shaving the treatment area, we can do this for you on the day of the appointment.
  • Avoid tanning: This includes tanning beds and sunless tanners
  • Avoid waxing, tweezing, plucking and electrolysis

On the day of your laser hair removal procedure do not use lotions, makeup, perfumes, deodorant, and creams on or around the treatment area.

After Laser Hair Removal

The treatment area may be slightly red and swollen after treatment, which is normal and will subside with time. It is important that you avoid touching the area to prevent further irritation.

The day of the treatment you’ll want to take things easy and avoid exercise, heat, chlorine, and makeup. You also avoid any sort of beauty and skincare products for 24 hours after your treatment.
Within 1-3 weeks of treatment, you should experience shedding of hair in the treated areas. During this time, it’s a good idea to exfoliate with a loofa or gentle scrub.
